De-escalation Skills
The De-escalation Skills course has been redesigned specifically for an online learning setting and will support workers to recognise when a person is becoming distressed or when a situation is escalating, and it provides a set of tools and strategies to respond in ways that are likely to result in positive outcomes.
Description
Target Audience: For workers in a wide range of frontline service delivery roles.
One of WAAMH's most popular courses with community service organisations, local councils, government departments, and health services. This course blends theory and practice to to prepare participants to use de-escalation skills in a variety of situations.
Sometimes people respond to circumstances and triggers in ways that can be challenging for workers to manage. Often this is as a result of the person’s distress or frustration and can be exacerbated by environmental factors.
This course will support participants to:
- Understanding of the impact escalation has on the brain and body and how that affects behaviour and reasoning
- Increased knowledge of escalation curve, stages and triggers
- Skill development using the 3-step model for de-escalation
- Recognition of escalation in self, and knowledge of strategies to self-regulate
The fully interactive online training sessions will be facilitated by two of our experienced trainers who have extensive knowledge, skills and experience in the mental health field. The course will be delivered over two, four hour sessions, on consecutive days and participants will be supported to meaningfully engage with the course content.
Places are limited to 16 people.
