Responding to Mental Health Challenges
This workshop is about building your confidence as first responders to support someone experiencing a mental health challenge. It prepares participants to know how to recognise signs of mental health issues and how to respond in an effective way.
Description
Target Audience: For those staff working across a variety of services including mental health, alcohol and other drugs, disability, first-aid, care services and housing.
By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
- Gain an understanding of mental health, mental distress, and common mental illnesses
- Gain an understanding of the risk factors, warning signs and protective factors involved in mental health
- Practice the ASK and Self-ASK Principles
- Explore potential barriers and self-care awareness when responding to mental health challenges
Wellness Responder Services:
A Wellness Responder will be in attendance during training sessions, to provide support and resources to participants should they experience a physical or mental health issue.
Lived Experience Guest Speaker:
Where appropriate, a Lived Experience Person will be invited along to a training session, to share their story, experiences, and recovery journey.
Catering:
Light refreshments will be available throughout the day. Microwaves and fridges are available for those participants who wish to bring their own lunch. There are also a number of cafes in the area to choose from should you wish to purchase your lunch. (Only Dairy milk provided)
