Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs: Toolkit
Prevention and minimalization of harm and bolstering recovery from co-occurring mental health and AOD challenges is possible for consumers and their families by encouraging hope and cultivating resilience.
Description
Building on the foundations laid by the course: Mental Health, Alcohol and Drugs Introduction, the Recovery Toolkit provides principles and tools for engaging effectively in person-centred and recovery orientated care. This course is principally aimed at workers within the mental health and AOD fields. Tools and instruments are only ever as good as the skills with which they are used.
This course leans towards experiential, practice-based learning to move the helper to greater levels of mastery.
This course will support participants to:
- Develop their understanding of and experience in self-reflective practice to guide interactions with consumers and their families;
- Deepen their understanding of the complex relationship between mental health challenges and AOD use and current trends in addiction treatment; and
- Develop their confidence in the practice using evidence-based tools applicable for all clients at any stage of recovery.
Wellness Responder Services:
A Wellness Responder will be in attendance during training sessions, to provide support and resources to participants should they experience a physical or mental health issue.
Lived Experience Guest Speaker:
Where appropriate, a Lived Experience Person will be invited along to a training session, to share their story, experiences, and recovery journey.
Catering:
Light refreshments will be available throughout the day. Microwaves and fridges are available for those participants who wish to bring their own lunch. There are also a number of cafes in the area to choose from should you wish to purchase your lunch. (Only Dairy milk provided)
