De-escalation Skills: Core Concepts
This condensed half-day refresher course is perfect for those with foundational knowledge on this topic. In this course participants will revisit the topic with the focus on building their confidence in recognizing and safely de-escalating situations and developing an awareness of strategies to use.
Description
Target Audience: This course is suitable for individuals and workers in a wide range of frontline and support service delivery roles.
Sometimes people respond to circumstances and triggers in ways that can be challenging for workers to manage. Often this is as a result of the person’s distress or frustration and can be exacerbated by environmental factors.
This course will support participants to:
- Increase their knowledge and understanding of the impact escalation has on the brain and body and how that affects behaviour and reasoning.
- Develop an awareness of the required skills and strategies in using the 3-step model for de-escalation.
One of WAAMH's most popular courses with community service organisations, local councils, government departments, and health services. This half-day course will aim to blend some theory and some practice to prepare participants to carry out de-escalation across a variety of work environments.
Wellness Responder Services:
A Wellness Responder will be in attendance during training sessions, to provide support and resources to participants should they experience a physical or mental health issue.
